Capitalism Imperils Millions of Land Indigenous People: Assam

Land is fundamental for the people of Assam and its economy. It is the identity, tradition and livelihood for the indigenous of Assam. Yet historically they have been marginalized and denied land security despite enabling laws because of a lack of political will and hostility from the Capitalists.

Government needs to recognize ,identify and adopt the best possible way to protect and secure the land security crisis of its own indigenous communities. Instead of asserting their right to land and housing as well as education, food, security and health and dignity, government prepares for an organized land grabbing and loot through the capitalists by implementing new MSME policy. However much is yet to be known about the new policy and how far this new policy is acceptable is yet to be known.

Deforestation and land grabbing are major challenges confronting many of 370 million indigenous people across the world. Government needs to find and adopt the best way to protect the pending climate crisis to allow the indigenous communities to live their way and follow the same pattern to protect our wild life and environment.

Today, most countries practice a mixed capitalist system that includes some degree of government regulation of business and ownership of select industries. In modern economies in much of society today are organized under the banner of capitalism. Some of the most important aspects of a capitalist system are private property, private control of the factors of production, accumulation of capital, and competition.

The Capitalists imperil the indigenous’ private land owners life conditions, with failing promises, devaluing and lowering the price / value of the indigenous property. While in some cases the community service offered by the industrialists to the land owners or his relatives amounts to only fourth category jobs like that of the security, care-taker, peon, night chowkidar etc.

With the industrialists religiously following capitalism with their sole moto being surplus profit thus resort to taking advantage of the vulnerable land indigenous communities , further compounding the problem is those land owners who often need to work to earn the money necessary to survive and support themselves and their families, have little or no choice but to work for relatively low wages just to make ends meet.

Government needs to do away with the inadequate policies , short sightedness’ and vested interests associated with the laws pertaining to the land and lives of the indigenous .Perhaps the only way forward is to re-design policies and strategies for a comprehensive development and nation building with an all-inclusive outlook.
